Hello Friends –

It is finally Spring and I am ready! I am ready for a little warm weather. I am ready to get my hands dirty. I am ready to warm my toes in the sun. I am ready to get a funny looking tan on the back of my neck, and in the gap above my jeans where my shirt rides up. I am ready! Bring it on!

The store is ready, too. It is packed. Every corner holds a glorious surprise. Every little growing thing is…growing.

I bet you are ready too. Come and see us.

Our vertical gardens in the press
Inspired by the work of Patrick Blanc, we've been creating vertical gardens for indoor and outdoor spaces. Vertical gardens are a great solution for small urban spaces. We've had so much fun with these gardens.

Our tillandsia garden in the New York Times
We were ever so thrilled to have the vertical tillandsia garden we installed for the Bardessono Hotel covered in the New York Times. This garden was a collaboration between Flora Grubb, Seth Boor, and Flora’s sweetie (and build-anything guy), Kevin Smith.

Two vertical gardens in Sunset Magazine
Both our Tillandsia garden and our gorgeous vertical succulent garden are in Sunset Magazine this month. Come and see them in person, if you haven’t already. This garden was also installed by Kevin Smith.

Small garden lives large in Garden Design magazine
The vertical garden helps to make the most of this tiny outdoor space, and transforms this living quarters into a garden cottage. The beautiful little garden I designed last year, also in collaboration with Seth Boor and Kevin Smith, is in Garden Design magazine this month. See more pictures of this project here.

Dare we call him our FAVORITE plantsman?
Please join us for a talk with Sean Hogan on April 8th at Flora Grubb Gardens. Sean Hogan might just take the prize . I’ve got to tell you, Sean’s horticultural knowledge is deep and wide. An exchange between Flora and Sean often goes like this:

Flora: "Hey Sean, look at this new agave I just got in. Isn't is pretty?"

Sean: "Why yes, I thought it was lovely when I discovered it while rappelling down the rocky face of a cliff deep in the Sierra Madre with a team of scientists and plant hunters."

I mean, this guy is the real deal. He has a nursery called Cistus in Portland filled with the very rarest of the rare for our West Coast mediterranean climates. He is designing amazing gardens with his discoveries, like a yucca-rich green roof in the bustling Pearl District. He might also be the most hilarious plantsman we know.

And we’re super excited to have him speak here at the store!
