Ficus lyrata ‘Variegata’
variegated fiddle-leaf fig
The large, cream-edge leaves of the fiddle-leaf fig make a dramatic statement. Dust and feed lightly. For steady growth, repot every few years; otherwise, move as little as possible.

This plant wants water when the top of the soil is dry, but you can still feel moisture just below the surface. This plant will often fall into a once-a-week watering cycle, but remember that your watering should be based on the moisture left in the soil, which will depend partly on the moisture in the room, day length, and the weather outside. The soil "surface'' goes a bit deeper for larger pots; for example, a plant in a 14-inch diameter pot should dry out a couple of inches deep before you water it, while a plant in a 4-inch pot will only want to dry out in the top half inch or so of soil. | |

Notas de cultivo
This variegated selection of the fiddle-leaf fig grows more slowly than the regular green form.
Remove dust by gently wiping the leaves with a damp cloth.
Plants can benefit from semi-annual leaching of the soil to remove accumulated fertilizer salts. Take the plant into the bathtub or into a shaded area outdoors, soak the soil, and then allow a slow trickle of water to flow through the soil mass for three to 15 minutes, depending on how large the pot (the larger the pot, the longer time to leach).
In mildest coastal Southern California areas, this variegated ficus can grow outdoors as a nice small tree or potted specimen in bright shade or dappled sun.
