Dense clumps of twisting silver rosettes hold delicate but effective spines. Three foot pink flower spikes hold royal purple-black flowers.

Ensure good drainage. Allow to dry out between waterings. It may be beneficial to wet the foliage, especially when the soil is hard to reach. This puya likely will not need supplemental irrigation in coastal California once established, especially in foggy areas. It will however look better and grow faster if given occasional supplemental water in the dry season.
