Mahonia eurybracteata ‘Soft Caress’

Soft Caress mahonia

Lacy whorls of evergreen foliage and golden blossoms in early winter make this graceful shrub a favorite for shade and part sun. Suited to containers. Carefree given moderate water.

For the first three years after it's planted, this plant should be watered deeply but infrequently (when the top three inches of soil or so have dried). After that, it will look best with occasional deep waterings every couple weeks to a month. Use drippers, emitters or a slow stream of water so that it doesn't run off; allow the water to trickle all the way down through the deepest layers of soil.

In cool, foggy areas, this plant can become somewhat drought-tolerant.

Though this shrub can become drought tolerant in the ground, never let it go bone dry in a pot

Notas de cultivo

A dwarf selection of the species, this small shrub tends to produce unbranched stems from the base, slowly becoming a small clump.

Interés especial

Its golden flowers emerging in a quiet time of year (early winter) enliven shadowed parts of the garden, drawing pollinators to flit about.

Symmetrical rosettes of foliage echo ferns and play well with other understory plants.
